One of my favorite things about architecture is making drawings with the scaled figures (“scalies”) doing funny things. While there are some very elaborate scalies out there on the internet for students and professionals to download (think Elvis, Darth Vader, bums smoking cigarettes, naked people, etc), my preferred scalie humor is of a simpler variety. I often collapse into silent-laugh-mode when faced with normal scalies placed in abnormal arrangements and (my favorite) scalies that are out of scale. I used to think that perhaps I found these scenarios so funny because I usually viewed them in a delirious and often very bleak state of being (the depths of studio terribleness). But, it’s just not true. Scalies are funny all of the time. Today at work, I completely lost it over scalie scenes. (The guy next to me was giving me the sideways, “what the heck is going on” kind of glances.) I couldn’t help it. Once I started, I couldn’t stop.

It began with an impending car wreck--guy coming up the ramp can't see the American crazy driving on the wrong side of the road!

Then the confused herd of ant people scrambles in oncoming traffic!

And then, sinister red car hides in the trees, awaiting the perfect moment for an ambush.
It's just too much. And these are not at all representative of my best work.
(I realize I may have lost my non-architect readers with this post. You really just have to trust me.)
